Learn how chain-play (automatic playback) works across various devices.*
AXIS chain-play provides automatic playback to your users for sequential episodes assets. Chain-play is a great way to keep your users engaged, episode after episode, and reduces the need for your users to manually click and play each time they are ready to watch the next episode in a sequence.
How does it work?
Three criteria must be met for chain-play to work:
- Enable chain-play in Presentation Manager
- There is another episode in the current sequence
- The current user has entitlement for the next episode
If you meet the three criteria, chain-play continues to work from episode to episode.
If, at any point, one of these criteria is not met, for example, If your user is watching a movie, or there is no additional episode in the sequence, then an end screen displays instead.
Chain-play automatically stops if the end-user does not interact with the service for a specific length of time. This length of time is configurable in Presentation Manager.
Is it configurable?
Chain-play is configurable in Presentation Manager by navigating to Admin → Settings → System and selecting the "Playback" tab.
ChainPlay Countdown: This represents the number of seconds before the next episode automatically plays. Setting the value to 0 here turns off the chain-play in your apps.
ChainPlay Timeout: This represents the number of minutes of user inactivity before chain-play pauses. Setting the value to 0 here turns off the chain-play timeout.
ChainPlay Squeeze back: This represents the number of seconds before the end of playback when the current video reduces in scale, and other user options present within the video player. Setting the value to 0 here results in no squeeze back.
