Introducing Featured detail pages and related asset filters.*
Note: This release is for AXIS Presentation Manager.
Overview
The 7.1 release continues to expand on the features introduced last release 7.0, with great new features to help maximize fan engagement and some other platform enhancements. These are:
- New Featured detail pages
- New related asset rules (for lists)
- Minor changes to how related assets are displayed to operators
What's new
Featured detail pages
Up until now, AXIS supported a single detail page template for each type of asset, which meant that all movie or show pages displayed exactly the same way.
With the 7.1 updates, operators can now override the destination for any asset to use a different instance of a detail template, or a stand-alone category/editorial template.
This feature opens up many opportunities to differentiate content to users. Here are a few use-cases we've thought of to get you started:
- A Featured detail page template to display original or exclusive content differently from the rest of the catalog
- Targeted detail pages for different asset subtypes (introduced in 7.0)
- A one-off marketing page for a marquee exclusive event or launch that includes extra editorial imagery, and curated lists of related assets
- A brand or franchise page for a show containing season, mini-series, and movie specials Standard list rows could be used to schedule each season in a separate row
- A custom asset that links out to a 3rd party website or service (e.g., merchandise, book tickets, etc.)
A Featured detail page for each asset type will automatically be added as part of this release, instantiated from the same templates as the standard detail pages.
How does it work?
A new Custom Destination attribute has been added to assets.
Until the current release, applications were always displaying the same detail page for all assets of the same type. For example, the /movies/{id}
page with Movie Detail
system template is used for each and every movie. Now it is possible to specify in PM for each individual asset its Custom Destination - the page which should be used as the asset detail page instead of the current, default one.
The custom destination does not change the URL in Reference Apps. When provided, the asset additionally becomes available by the path of the featured page (e.g. /featured/movie/La_La_Land_857
). However, for SEO reasons, the path of the default page (e.g. /movie/La_La_Land_857
) is preserved used across all Reference Apps.
It is also possible to use any fully qualified URL as a Custom Destination.
Custom Destination is available for almost all asset types: movie, show, season, episode, channel, program, or custom. It's not available for trailers (they do not have a detail page) and other entities, like links and lists.
API and reference app compatibility
Featured detail pages may not be fully supported in each reference app. To maintain backward compatibility, this feature is disabled by default in the AXIS API. A new feature flag cd
(custom destinations) has been added to the /page
service to enable custom destinations.

Related asset filters
We have further expanded the support of Asset Relations introduced in AXIS release 7.0.
The 7.1 update adds related asset rules to lists so that operators can schedule related assets into any existing row that already supports lists. This feature allows bi-directional lookups based on an asset ID and a relation type, and can be filtered to specific item types:
- All actors in the movie La La Land
- All movies with the actor Ryan Gosling
These are currently available as a parameterized rule in advanced view only. Operators can define the target asset when scheduling the list into a row.
How does it work?
In 7.0 we introduced support for managing custom asset relations on assets.
Lists now support a new type of rule which returns assets having a specific relation with the asset provided. The rule is only editable by support personnel via the advanced view.
Lists with the new rule can be used in a standard way and displayed in all Reference Apps. This feature is available immediately after the upgrade; no additional support is required.
What's changed
Asset relations
We have enhanced the recently released feature. If editing related assets, Presentation Manager only offers supported relations.
Administrators can define asset relations, for more information, see our asset relations article.
When Custom Relation is selected, asset types that are not allowed as a source by the relation are not offered.
Within the Admin section, asset relations are now displayed as directional.
What's fixed
Platform
- Fixed a memory leak on page publishing
- Fixed a publishing issue that ignored offer segmentation tags
Presentation Manager
- Resolved an issue regarding a blank selector when viewing an episode of a season with a large number of episodes
- Fixed the link destination editing
Considerations
It is only possible to assign Custom Destinations for an individual asset. It is not possible to assign one to asset type, subtype, genre, etc.
Known issues
Trailers have a Custom Destination field even while the feature is not supported for that asset type.
