Learn about episode assets, and how to display them in rows across your apps.*
Assets are your catalog of video and non-video content. Each asset contains metadata (including images), offers, and an internal reference to a video file if applicable.
AXIS supports multiple asset types that display in rows in the Reference Apps. How they display will depend on the available metadata, the selected row type and how it's configured, and the user’s app.

What are Episode assets?
Episodes are an entertainment asset type, representing the parts into which the seasons of a show are divided. In Presentation Manager, episodes are represented by the icon.
Episode assets can be related to your TV show and season assets. Setting up these relationships allows you to display a list of available episodes to your users when they select a particular show or season asset in their app.
Episode asset metadata
Record metadata for your episode assets, and configure the fields to display across your apps, giving users more information about the asset.
Your configuration settings, the selected row type, and the user’s device will all have a bearing on which fields appear and how they’re displayed.
Available metadata fields for episode assets include:
- the asset title, e.g.: [show name] S1 E4
- the specific episode title, if it has one, e.g. The one where […]
- the episode number, showing its position in the series or season
- a full or short description or synopsis of the episode
- the duration of the episode
- the cast of the episode
Read our asset metadata article for a full list and descriptions of all the metadata fields for your episode assets.
Episodes in rows
When users select a show in their app, they can navigate to a specific season and view all the episodes in that season. From there, they can select an episode to see more information or initiate playback, depending on entitlement.
There’s a range of row types available for displaying episode assets – vertically, horizontally (as shown below), or in a grid.
Episode detail page
Creating an item detail page for your episode assets allows you to display more information about the episode when users select it.
With list rules, you can also surface related content in rows, highlighting other assets based on the asset relations you’ve set up. For example, you can display episode trailers in rows, if relations have been configured between your episode and trailer asset types. Learn how to create lists like this by reading our list rules article.
